Celebrate St. Patrick's Day without gluten

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day without gluten

There is no better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day then with a slice of Irish Soda Bread still warm, fresh from the oven.

Just because your grandmother’s recipe was filled with gluten, doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate the luck of the Irish (and the many great gluten-free resources and bloggers available in 2014.)

To start off, here is a simple, straightforward recipe from Living Without for Irish Soda Bread that is dairy free and includes a recipe for how to make the high protein, gluten free flour the recipe calls for.

Here is an Irish Soda Bread recipe from Jules Speaks Gluten Free. (An advocate for those with celiac disease and experienced baker, Jules developed an all-purpose gluten free flour.) Jules incorporates a gluten-free beer in this recipe to help the flavor and texture of the bread. The recipe is dairy, soy, nut, egg and yeast-free. Check out the recipe here.

And for a unique twist, check out Gluten Free Goddess‘s recipe for Gluten Free Irish Soda Bread Bun Rolls here. They are dairy free and she offers adding caraway seeds as a flavorful variation.

Or maybe Irish Soda Bread isn’t your thing. Take a look at our friend Gigi at GlutenFreeGigi‘s great post with 17 fresh ideas with green food to celebrate the holiday. In addition to being gluten free, many of Gigi’s suggestions are also healthy, with nutritional powerhouse ingredients like kale and avocado. (There is a recipe for cupcakes at the end of her list, for those with a bit more a sweet tooth!)

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! We hope this Monday has a little extra luck for our readers!
