How can you get Doctors in our area 76878, Coleman county to realize the Gluten Free is a real health problem and that Celiac Disease is real thing?

    1. GFT staff says:

It is unfortunate that the gluten free diet craze can confuse people from understanding the medical implications of having celiac disease. It is just that a disease, an autoimmune disease that can have very serious health ramifications if not treated. When a celiac goes on a gluten free diet it is not because it is fashionable. We do it because eliminating gluten is the treatment for our disease and is medically necessary. Perhaps the best way to educate your doctor is by educating yourself and passing what you know to them. We wish it was easier. Don’t get discouraged and keep learning.

That is exactly what I did after my 1992 diagnosis. I joined an existing Celiac support group, learned so much, changed contamination habits, and told my doctor about it all. He was grateful, and passed on my info to others in his practice with systems. He looked for celiac disease more often because of me. I was the first patient he diagnosed. He even asked if I would talk with his celiac patients about all I had learned. So try talking to your doctor, asking him to spread the word of the seriousness of Celiac Disease.

Thank you for sharing Eileen. You are exactly what we need in the celiac community. Your drive to learn and teach others is admirable. Great to hear your story, an inspiration for all.

Does anyone know if there is a link between sugar level issues and celiac disease. I’m now trying to maintain my blood sugar levels after finally getting the gluten under control…ughh Haven’t been feeling great lately…What exactly would I expect if I’m part of this foundation?
