Use family time wisely during the holidays

The holidays are all about good food and memories made with family and friends. We’ve covered providing a gluten-free menu for the holidays but what about taking advantage of having your nearest and dearest around to talk about the importance of genetic testing and celiac disease? Undiagnosed celiac disease can have long-term consequences, so it is critical for first-and second-degree relatives to be tested.

A piece published by Celiac Central, a great website from the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness, offers help in broaching the subject of genetic testing for celiac disease. The information is presented in a way that is easy to digest but serious enough to make you want to take action.

(They even made a pdf to use for reference when broaching this topic with family. Print it here.)

So now is the time to talk about it. Maybe while a group of you tackle the dishes or perhaps over coffee and gluten-free dessert? There’s no time like the present and no better reason to bring awareness about genetic testing and celiac disease to those around you.

Happy holidays from the team at Gluten Free Therapeutics!
